I was raised in the midwest and have lived the lasts 13 years in South Florida.
I am a 46 year old single female.
I am interested in relocating to the area.
How open are the locals to newbies?
As I'm sure everyone's aware, in general, South Florida is a very fast paced place with a lot of very rude people. I don't want to go back to the midwest because of the climate, and I've always heard that the Raleigh area was charming and the people are extremely friendly. I need friendly.

New residents are absolutely welcome in Raleigh! I think you'll find yourself quite welcome here. There are plentiful jobs, a growing downtown, and an easier pace than what you've been used to.

If I can answer any questions about Raleigh, let me know. I've been here for 16 years and love it!

So, what do you think thus far? I just moved to Raleigh 3 months ago from Chicago and love it.

Welcome to the area Kari!

I moved from the DC area about 5+ years ago and I've found that there are transplants from all over. Raleigh attracts all kinds of job seekers (RTP), retirees looking for a mild climate, college students (Duke, UNC, NC State, etc.) and people like me that moved to Raleigh for better quality of life reasons. I blog daily www.raleighvipclub.com on Raleigh shopping and service topics and give reviews on what I've discovered in the area, so that may help you if you're seriously considering the Raleigh area as your next home. I love Raleigh and can't imagine living anywhere else.

Hi,

I'm a native of N.C. However, being single in my later thirties I will tell you the best place to live is in the downtown or close to downtown area. There is definitely a more electic and diverse population...especially the population of thirties and forties who are single professionals.

I moved from North Raleigh to downtown and found it to be an awesome community that is unlike anywhere else in Raleigh. I'm no longer single....I ended up married to my downtown neighbor:-)

Welcome to Raleigh!
