New residents are absolutely welcome in Raleigh! I think you'll find yourself quite welcome here. There are plentiful jobs, a growing downtown, and an easier pace than what you've been used to.

I moved from the DC area about 5+ years ago and I've found that there are transplants from all over. Raleigh attracts all kinds of job seekers (RTP), retirees looking for a mild climate, college students (Duke, UNC, NC State, etc.) and people like me that moved to Raleigh for better quality of life reasons. I'm a native of N.C. However, being single in my later thirties I will tell you the best place to live is in the downtown or close to downtown area. There is definitely a more electic and diverse population...especially the population of thirties and forties who are single professionals.

I moved from North Raleigh to downtown and found it to be an awesome community that is unlike anywhere else in Raleigh. I'm no longer single....I ended up married to my downtown neighbor:-)
